The masterminds behind the Chiswick-based Outsider Tart boutique bakery, also known as the two Davids are in today’s cupcake spotlight.

After moving to London from New York, David Lesniak and David Muniz set up shop and surrounded themselves with all the delicious treats that reminded them of home. Selling American goodies from red velvet cupcakes to barbecue sauce, these guys have really added that magical touch of the States to west London.

Cakes for Japan

This time last Friday I was jumping on a train from FN UK HQ to Maiden, in Shoreditch, where I agreed to help support Cakes for Japan under the premise of buying as many cakes for the office as I could carry.

I can assure you I succeeded in this mission, and so did Cakes for Japan.

With a room constantly full of friendly people jostling over the sushi cake pops, you could tell that everyone was willing to get involved in raising money for Japan. Within three hours, all the cakes had sold out and £2,000 had been raised.

Here’s what I came back with…

Watermelon and purple grape cupcakes from Ms Cupcake, painted cherry blossom cookies from Nevie Pie and a stash of sushi cake pops from Molly Bakes.

I also grabbed a stack of amazing choc chip cookies from the winner of the Great British Bake Off, Edd Kimber.

All in all it was seen as a success in the office, as we had cake for the rest of the afternoon, and we managed to help support Japan.
